Megabyte
A megabyte is a unit of digital information equal to 1,024 kilobytes or approximately 1 million bytes. It is commonly used to measure file sizes of photos, songs, and documents, as well as small application sizes.
History
The megabyte became a common unit in the 1980s as personal computers gained more storage. Early hard drives measured capacity in megabytes. A typical MP3 song is about 3-5 MB, and a high-resolution photo is typically 2-10 MB.
