Gigabyte
A gigabyte is a unit of digital information equal to 1,024 megabytes or approximately 1 billion bytes. It is the standard unit for measuring smartphone storage, RAM, and data plans.
History
The gigabyte became common in the 1990s as hard drives and storage media grew larger. Today, smartphones typically have 64-512 GB of storage, and mobile data plans are measured in gigabytes. One hour of HD video streaming uses approximately 3 GB.
