Celsius
Celsius is a temperature scale where 0°C is the freezing point of water and 100°C is the boiling point of water at standard atmospheric pressure. It is used by most countries worldwide for everyday temperature measurement and in scientific contexts.
History
The Celsius scale was proposed by Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius in 1742. Originally, his scale was inverted (0° was boiling, 100° was freezing), but it was reversed after his death. The scale was renamed from 'centigrade' to 'Celsius' in 1948 by the General Conference on Weights and Measures.
