Imperial Ton
The imperial ton, also called the long ton, is a unit of mass equal to 2,240 pounds or approximately 1,016 kilograms. It was historically used in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries for trade and shipping.
History
The long ton is based on the imperial hundredweight of 112 pounds, with 20 hundredweight making one ton. It was the standard ton in British trade for centuries before being largely replaced by the metric ton in international commerce.
