Gram
A gram is a metric unit of mass equal to one thousandth of a kilogram. It is widely used worldwide for measuring food ingredients, jewelry, and small objects. One gram is approximately the mass of a standard paper clip.
History
The gram was originally defined in 1795 as the mass of one cubic centimeter of water at its maximum density (approximately 4°C). The name comes from the Late Latin 'gramma,' meaning a small weight. It became the base unit of mass in the CGS (centimeter-gram-second) system.
