US Ton
The US ton, also known as the short ton, is a unit of mass equal to 2,000 pounds or approximately 907.18 kilograms. It is commonly used in the United States for measuring large quantities of materials such as coal, grain, and construction materials.
History
The short ton originated in the United States and is derived from the hundredweight of 100 pounds, with 20 hundredweight making one ton. It differs from the imperial (long) ton of 2,240 pounds and the metric ton of 1,000 kilograms.
