Grain
The grain is a unit of mass equal to approximately 64.8 milligrams. It is one of the oldest units of weight and is still used in ballistics for measuring bullet and gunpowder weights, and in pharmacy for drug formulations.
History
The grain is based on the weight of a single grain of wheat or barley. It was historically the smallest unit in the English weight system. One pound avoirdupois equals 7,000 grains, and one troy ounce equals 480 grains.
