US Cup
A US cup is a unit of volume equal to 8 US fluid ounces, half a US pint, or approximately 237 milliliters. It is the standard measuring unit in American cooking and baking recipes.
History
The US cup was standardized by Fannie Farmer in the 1896 Boston Cooking-School Cook Book, which advocated for standardized measurements in recipes. Before this, recipes used imprecise terms like 'a teacup' or 'a coffee cup.'
