PSI
PSI (pounds per square inch) is an imperial unit of pressure measuring force in pounds applied to an area of one square inch. It is the standard pressure unit in the United States for tire pressure, hydraulic systems, and compressed gas cylinders.
History
PSI has been used in English-speaking countries for centuries as the standard engineering unit of pressure. Standard atmospheric pressure is 14.696 psi. Typical car tires are inflated to 30-35 psi, while truck tires may require 80-100 psi.
