Megawatt
A megawatt is a unit of power equal to 1,000,000 watts or 1,000 kilowatts. It is used to measure the output of power plants, large industrial motors, and data centers. One megawatt can power approximately 750-1,000 average US homes.
History
The megawatt is the standard unit for measuring power plant capacity. A typical coal or natural gas plant generates 500-1,000 MW. A single large wind turbine produces 2-5 MW, and a nuclear power plant typically generates 500-1,400 MW.
