Kilowatt
A kilowatt is a unit of power equal to 1,000 watts. It is commonly used for measuring the power output of engines, electric motors, heaters, and air conditioning systems. Household electricity consumption is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).
History
The kilowatt is derived from the watt, named after James Watt. An average American household uses about 30 kWh of electricity per day. A typical electric vehicle charger operates at 7-19 kW (Level 2) or 50-350 kW (DC fast charging).
