BTU per Hour
BTU per hour is a unit of power used in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry. One BTU/h represents the rate of energy needed to raise one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit per hour.
History
The British Thermal Unit originated in the 1850s and became the standard unit for heating and cooling capacity in the United States. Air conditioners and furnaces are rated in BTU/h. A typical window AC unit is rated at 5,000-12,000 BTU/h.
