Inch
An inch is a unit of length in the imperial and US customary systems equal to 1/12 of a foot or exactly 2.54 centimeters. It is widely used in the United States and United Kingdom for measuring dimensions of objects, screen sizes, and construction materials.
History
The inch has ancient origins, with some historians tracing it to the width of a human thumb. The word comes from the Latin 'uncia,' meaning one-twelfth. In 1959, the inch was internationally standardized at exactly 25.4 millimeters.
