Megabit
A megabit is a unit of digital information equal to 1,024 kilobits or approximately 1 million bits. It is most commonly used to express internet bandwidth speeds in megabits per second (Mbps).
History
The megabit became the standard unit for internet speeds with the advent of broadband in the early 2000s. Note that 1 megabit equals 1/8 of a megabyte — so a 100 Mbps connection can theoretically download about 12.5 MB per second.
