Kilobit
A kilobit is a unit of digital information equal to 1,024 bits or 128 bytes. It is primarily used to measure data transfer speeds, where internet connection speeds are expressed in kilobits per second (Kbps).
History
The kilobit became a common unit with the rise of dial-up internet in the 1990s. Early modems operated at speeds of 14.4 or 56 Kbps. While modern connections are measured in Mbps or Gbps, Kbps remains relevant for low-bandwidth applications.
