Hectare
A hectare is a metric unit of area equal to 10,000 square meters or approximately 2.471 acres. It is widely used for measuring land area in agriculture, forestry, and urban planning throughout the world.
History
The hectare was introduced as part of the metric system in 1795. The word comes from the Greek 'hekaton' (hundred) and 'are' (a metric unit of 100 square meters). While not an SI unit, the hectare is accepted for use with the SI system and is the most commonly used unit for land measurement globally.
