Acre
An acre is a unit of area equal to 43,560 square feet, 4,840 square yards, or approximately 4,047 square meters (0.4047 hectares). It is the primary unit for measuring land area in the United States and United Kingdom.
History
The acre originated in medieval England as the amount of land a yoke of oxen could plough in one day. The word comes from the Old English 'æcer,' meaning field. Despite metrication efforts, the acre remains the standard land measurement unit in the US, UK, and several Commonwealth countries.
